Hilliker YMCA Team News
Clinic opportunity - April 24 March 9, 2010
The HYCAT team in Charleston, WV would like to personally invite the Buckeye Hilliker swimmers to a cutting-edge swim clinic led by Nick Thoman (100m backstroke World recordholder) and Nick Brunelli (American 50 SCM freestyle recordholder).
On Saturday April 24th, 2010, we will be holding a session designed for 8 – 12 year olds and a second session for 13 – 18 year old competitive swimmers. Thoman and Brunelli will be in the water with the swimmers working with them on:
Core body position to maintain streamline
Holding your speed off the start
Proper head position for moving smoothly through the water with good breathing technique
Using powerful dolphin kicks off the walls
Maintaining speed into and out of your turns
Increasing distance per stroke.
Each swimmer will have their technique evaluated and individualized tips and instruction on improving their stroke. As part of the clinic, Jennifer VanAssen Brunelli will hold a nutritional seminar covering pre/post race and workout nutrition, the changing nutritional needs of growing athletes, and more. (Parents can also attend the nutritional seminar for $10.00 to cover the cost of handouts.) The fee for the clinic is $65.00 per swimmer with a sliding fee scale for families with more than one swimmer. COACHES ARE FREE, Thoman and Brunelli encourage the coaches to attend and provide feedback.
Thoman and Brunelli are dynamic, enthusiastic instructors/clinicians who love working with young, up and coming swimmers. Their clinics have been a huge success all over the country. This will be a fun and exciting day that you will not want your swimmers to miss!
OSU Volunteer Opportunity at Big 10's and NCAA Championships February 12, 2010
My name is Kristen Calo and I am working with Mike Penner and Ericka Hoon to acquire volunteers for the 2010 Big Ten and NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. As the championships approach, we are still in need of volunteers for these events. We wanted to be sure that your teams receive the opportunity to work the events that they wanted before we send information out to the general public.
We ask that if any of your swimmers are interested in volunteering that they send in the attached availability forms in as soon as possible. They may either fax them to 614-688-8412 or mail them to the address on the form. As the championship approaches, we will email confirmation to all of our volunteers with additional information about the championship (ie. Dress, Parking, ect.).
At the coaches request you should be coming to practice ONLY when your age group swims. No exceptions. If you have a scheduling conflict please talk with the coaches to find an alternative before hand. This is very important for the entire teams training. As a reminder I've included the practice times below and they are posted on the board at the YMCA.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, Pam Fulmer Booster President

It took a village to make our first home invitational a great success!
Thanks to Nancee Starkey for coordinating concession and all who worked concessions which made our team $813.00 AFTER paying for the pizzas! Thanks to all the families that worked officiating, starting, and doing technical jobs that kept our meet running smoothly, and thanks for all who worked our bullpen to keep a steady flow of swimmers moving into the pool area. Special Thanks to the hilliker YMCA for a smooth setup and taking care of a lot of that for us. Also, a special thanks to Laurie Karr for all she does for our team and the rest of our coaches who cheered our kids on and coached them to a win!
The coaches and swimmers hard work at practice really paid off in the results! BKHY had an easy win at our home meet with the following
score: BKHY 1168, Hardin County Y 273, UCY 148, and Sidney 92. Total results are attached. Thank you again for all your hard work and a great meet! You guys rock!

-All swimmers should be to practice, in the pool, and ready to swim on time. Practice times are posted on the swim team cork board.

The USA Swimming House of Delegates, consisting of 438 coach, official and athlete members, voted to implement new swimsuit requirements, beginning on October 1. While this earlier implementation date has created some challenges, it was put in place to both avoid interrupting our short course season and protect the integrity of our competitions in the summer of 2010.
The new swimsuit requirements are very specific and technical in nature, but deal primarily with silhouette and material of the suits.
FINA will be the ultimate judge of which materials will be acceptable. However, in an effort to provide clearer guidance to its membership, USA Swimming asked the major suit manufacturers, in good faith, to indicate which of their suits meet the specified criteria. The list of those suits is below.
Please note, none of these suits should be considered “FINA approved” until FINA issues its list of 2010 suits.Once FINA publishes its list, some of the suits below may no longer be acceptable.

The YMCA would like me to pass on to you the following updates:
-All swimmers must be members of the YMCA. This is available for bank drafts of $11.61/month.
-If you sign up for the payment plan your payment is due on the first of every month for 5 months. If payment has not been received by the 10th of the month you will be invoiced and your swimmer will not be eligible for team practice from the 11th on until payment or arrangements with the YMCA have been made.
-If you think you may qualify for financial assistance. Please contact the YMCA to see if you qualify.
-If you can't pay the amount in one lump sum and you DO NOT want to break up the payments into five payments you can split the fees into two equal payments. Please contact the YMCA to make these arrangements.
In case you haven't noticed from the above notes the YMCA is really flexible in making arrangements to allow the opportunity for every swimmer who wants to swim to be able to do so.
